Apparel Accessory Price in the United States (CIF) - 2023

The average apparel accessory import price stood at $19,371 per ton in August 2023, waning by -3.6% against the previous month. In general, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in March 2023 when the average import price increased by 6.9% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $21,712 per ton in December 2022; however, from January 2023 to August 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was Mexico ($32,885 per ton), while the price for Indonesia ($11,352 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Sri Lanka (+2.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Apparel Accessory Price in the United States (FOB) - 2022

The average apparel accessory export price stood at $82,983 per ton in 2022, approximately reflecting the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed a abrupt shrinkage. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when the average export price increased by 20%. The export price peaked at $193,255 per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Canada ($148,112 per ton), while the average price for exports to Sri Lanka ($56 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2013 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Italy (+26.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Apparel Accessory Imports in the United States

In 2022, imports of apparel accessories and other apparel into the United States expanded sharply to 276K tons, increasing by 13% on 2021 figures. In general, imports enjoyed a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 12,653% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of 445K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, apparel accessory imports skyrocketed to $5.6B in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a modest increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.7% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports decreased by -33.1% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 57%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $8.3B. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Apparel Accessory Exports in the United States

For the fourth consecutive year, the United States recorded growth in shipments abroad of apparel accessories and other apparel, which increased by 16% to 5.8K tons in 2022. Over the period under review, exports enjoyed a significant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when exports increased by 148%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, apparel accessory exports skyrocketed to $483M in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +8.6% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 22% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
