The average chromium trioxide import price stood at $3,036 per ton in October 2023, almost unchanged from the previous month. In general, the import price, however, saw a mild shrinkage. The import price peaked at $3,836 per ton in November 2022; however, from December 2022 to October 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In October 2023, the highest price was recorded for prices from the United States ($4,205 per ton) and India ($3,141 per ton), while the price for China ($2,821 per ton) and Kazakhstan ($2,939 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From October 2022 to October 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (+0.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

In 2022, the average chromium trioxide export price amounted to $5,217 per ton, jumping by 42% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed a deep downturn. The export price peaked at $11,842 per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Colombia ($14,169 per ton), while the average price for exports to Chile ($4,359 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Colombia (+3.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.
Chromium Trioxide Imports in Brazil
For the fourth consecutive year, Brazil recorded growth in purchases abroad of chromium trioxides, which increased by 21% to 9.7K tons in 2022. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +14.3% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 22% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.
In value terms, chromium trioxide imports surged to $34M in 2022. In general, imports continue to indicate significant growth. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
