Cocoa Butter Price in Malaysia (FOB) - 2021
In December 2021, the average cocoa butter export price amounted to $4,628 per ton, which is down by -1.6% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in January 2021 an increase of 5.2% month-to-month. The export price peaked at $5,560 per ton in February 2021; however, from March 2021 to December 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In December 2021, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($6,085 per ton), while the average price for exports to China ($3,736 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From December 2020 to December 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Russia (+3.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Cocoa Butter Price in Malaysia (CIF) - 2022
In 2022, the average cocoa butter import price amounted to $4,906 per ton, remaining relatively unchanged against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.7%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the average import price increased by 42%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $6,752 per ton. From 2015 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($5,378 per ton), while the price for Indonesia totaled $4,268 per ton.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Indonesia (+3.6%).
Cocoa Butter Exports in Malaysia
Cocoa butter exports from Malaysia shrank modestly to 114K tons in 2022, with a decrease of -4.4% compared with 2021. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.0% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 8.7%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 120K tons, and then fell in the following year.
In value terms, cocoa butter exports dropped slightly to $602M in 2022. In general, exports continue to indicate a mild shrinkage. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 1%.
