Dry Bean Price in Canada (FOB) - 2023
In June 2023, the average dry bean export price amounted to $1,045 per ton, with an increase of 1.8% against the previous month. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in October 2022 an increase of 4.9% against the previous month. The export price peaked at $1,127 per ton in July 2022; however, from August 2022 to June 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Italy ($1,344 per ton), while the average price for exports to China ($635 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Portugal (+1.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Dry Bean Price in Canada (CIF) - 2023
In June 2023, the average dry bean import price amounted to $1,212 per ton, dropping by -27.4% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in November 2022 when the average import price increased by 57% against the previous month. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $1,917 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to June 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was China ($2,449 per ton), while the price for Myanmar ($931 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+4.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Dry Bean Exports in Canada
In 2022, shipments abroad of beans (dry) decreased by -14.3% to 322K tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. In general, exports saw a pronounced setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 12% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 384K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, dry bean exports declined to $349M in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +4.5% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when exports increased by 22%.
