Honey Price in Malaysia (CIF) - 2021
In December 2021, the average honey import price amounted to $4,156 per ton, rising by 2.5% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in November 2021 when the average import price increased by 45% against the previous month. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $4,361 per ton in January 2021; however, from February 2021 to December 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was New Zealand ($24,767 per ton), while the price for China ($1,529 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From December 2020 to December 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Yemen (+38.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Honey Price in Malaysia (FOB) - 2021
The average honey export price stood at $5,386 per ton in December 2021, increasing by 10% against the previous month. In general, export price indicated a slight increase from December 2020 to December 2021: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +1.3% over the last twelve-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on December 2021 figures, honey export price decreased by -34.6% against September 2021 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in August 2021 when the average export price increased by 64% against the previous month. The export price peaked at $8,232 per ton in September 2021; however, from October 2021 to December 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In December 2021, the country with the highest price was Somalia ($7,670 per ton), while the average price for exports to Maldives ($2,478 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From December 2020 to December 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Somalia (+3.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Honey Imports in Malaysia
In 2022, the amount of honey imported into Malaysia dropped to 3.8K tons, with a decrease of -8.8% against the previous year. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.9% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 25% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of 4.2K tons, and then declined in the following year.
In value terms, honey imports declined to $13M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +5.7% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 33% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $15M, and then declined in the following year.

Honey Exports in Malaysia
Honey exports from Malaysia expanded markedly to 223 tons in 2022, increasing by 5.2% compared with 2021 figures.
