Paddy Rice Price in China (FOB) - 2023
The average paddy rice export price stood at $3,813 per ton in June 2023, rising by 3.4% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a mild slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in September 2022 when the average export price increased by 25% against the previous month. The export price peaked at $4,705 per ton in July 2022; however, from August 2022 to June 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably for the major overseas markets. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was the Philippines ($3,866 per ton), while the average price for exports to Pakistan totaled $3,755 per ton.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Vietnam (-0.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
Paddy Rice Price in China (CIF) - 2022
In 2022, the average paddy rice import price amounted to $394 per ton, flattening at the previous year. Over the period under review, import price indicated a perceptible increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, paddy rice import price decreased by -1.3% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when the average import price increased by 72% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $400 per ton. From 2021 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
As there is only one major supplying country, the average price level is determined by prices for Myanmar.
From 2012 to 2022, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Lao People's Democratic Republic amounted to +0.6% per year.
Paddy Rice Exports in China
In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in shipments abroad of paddy rice, when their volume decreased by -8.4% to 23K tons. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +9.5% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 30%.
In value terms, paddy rice exports fell to $88M in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +11.7% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when exports increased by 31%.

Paddy Rice Imports in China
In 2022, purchases abroad of paddy rice increased by 8.8% to 14K tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a dramatic shrinkage.
In value terms, paddy rice imports rose rapidly to $5.5M in 2022. In general, imports, however, recorded a abrupt setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 31%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $11M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
