In May 2023, the average preserved sweet corn import price amounted to $1,946 per ton, growing by 4.2% against the previous month. Over the last twelve months, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.9%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in June 2022 when the average import price increased by 10% month-to-month. The import price peaked in May 2023.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In May 2023, the country with the highest price was Germany ($2,520 per ton), while the price for China ($1,228 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From May 2022 to May 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Italy (+3.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Preserved Sweet Corn Price in the UK (FOB) - 2023
The average preserved sweet corn export price stood at $2,817 per ton in May 2023, growing by 5.8% against the previous month. In general, export price indicated a moderate increase from May 2022 to May 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +2.8% over the last twelve-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on May 2023 figures, preserved sweet corn export price increased by +81.6% against September 2022 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in October 2022 when the average export price increased by 16% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure in May 2023.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Ireland ($2,822 per ton), while the average price for exports to Switzerland ($1,730 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From May 2022 to May 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Switzerland (+48.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Preserved Sweet Corn Imports in the UK
In 2022, the amount of sweet corn prepared or preserved imported into the UK amounted to 56K tons, approximately reflecting the previous year's figure. In general, imports, however, saw a abrupt contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 8.9%. As a result, imports attained the peak of 76K tons.
