Price for Aluminium Waste and Scrap in the Philippines (FOB) - 2023

In May 2023, the average aluminium waste and scrap export price amounted to $805 per ton, growing by 14% against the previous month. Overall, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in September 2022 when the average export price increased by 38% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $1,331 per ton in July 2022; however, from August 2022 to May 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In May 2023, the country with the highest price was Taiwan (Chinese) ($1,237 per ton), while the average price for exports to Thailand ($186 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From May 2022 to May 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Taiwan (Chinese) (+16.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

In 2022, the average aluminium waste and scrap import price amounted to $1,205 per ton, with a decrease of -6.4% against the previous year. Overall, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 21%. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $1,691 per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($1,547 per ton), while the price for Colombia ($402 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Brazil (+36.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Exports of Aluminium Waste and Scrap in the Philippines

After three years of growth, overseas shipments of aluminium waste and scraps decreased by -3% to 29K tons in 2022. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +7.2% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 17% against the previous year.

In value terms, aluminium waste and scrap exports reduced notably to $30M in 2022. In general, total exports indicated a strong increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +17.8% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +63.4% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 44%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $35M, and then declined notably in the following year.

Over the period under review, imports showed a abrupt shrinkage. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 46% against the previous year.

In value terms, aluminium waste and scrap imports contracted notably to $16M in 2022. Overall, imports continue to indicate a slight setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 77% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $20M, and then contracted markedly in the following year.
