In December 2023, the average export price for artificial staple fibres, not carded, combed or otherwise processed for spinning amounted to $1,732 per ton, approximately reflecting the previous month. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in October 2023 when the average export price increased by 3.3% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $1,863 per ton in February 2023; however, from March 2023 to December 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major foreign markets. In December 2023, the highest price was recorded for prices to the United States ($2,130 per ton) and Vietnam ($2,040 per ton), while the average price for exports to Spain ($1,556 per ton) and Poland ($1,604 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From December 2022 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Turkey (+0.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

In December 2023, the average import price for artificial staple fibres, not carded, combed or otherwise processed for spinning amounted to $2,659 per ton, rising by 4.1% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in January 2023 an increase of 7.2% m-o-m. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $3,100 per ton. From February 2023 to December 2023, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In December 2023, the country with the highest price was the UK ($4,128 per ton), while the price for India ($1,616 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From December 2022 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Japan (+0.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Exports of Artificial Staple Fibres, Not Carded, Combed or Otherwise Processed for Spinning in China
In 2022, the amount of artificial staple fibres, not carded, combed or otherwise processed for spinning exported from China expanded modestly to 333K tons, growing by 3.4% against the year before. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a pronounced descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 4.1% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 376K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports of failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, exports of artificial staple fibres, not carded, combed or otherwise processed for spinning expanded markedly to $648M in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +2.9% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 21% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports of attained the maximum in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
