Price for Felt; Whether or Not Impregnated, Coated, Covered or Laminated in China (FOB) - 2023
In December 2023, the average export price for felt; whether or not impregnated, coated, covered or laminateds amounted to $3,755 per ton, growing by 11% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a noticeable setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in August 2023 when the average export price increased by 27% m-o-m. The export price peaked at $5,505 per ton in December 2022; however, from January 2023 to December 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In December 2023, the country with the highest price was Japan ($12,649 per ton), while the average price for exports to Chile ($1,181 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From December 2022 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Japan (+3.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

The average import price for felt; whether or not impregnated, coated, covered or laminateds stood at $8,996 per ton in December 2023, which is down by -5.9% against the previous month. Overall, the import price recorded a pronounced slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in June 2023 when the average import price increased by 5.7% m-o-m. The import price peaked at $12,464 per ton in September 2023; however, from October 2023 to December 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In December 2023, the country with the highest price was Germany ($26,500 per ton), while the price for Vietnam ($787 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From December 2022 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+5.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Exports of Felt; Whether or Not Impregnated, Coated, Covered or Laminated in China
In 2022, after three years of growth, there was decline in overseas shipments of felt; whether or not impregnated, coated, covered or laminateds, when their volume decreased by -1.4% to 58K tons. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +8.3% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by 19% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 59K tons, and then dropped in the following year.
In value terms, exports of felt; whether or not impregnated, coated, covered or laminateds surged to $273M in 2022. In general, total exports indicated a resilient increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +15.8% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +55.2% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 26% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.
