In October 2023, the average import price for onions, shallots, garlic, leeks and other alliaceous vegetables; fresh or chilleds amounted to $282 per ton, waning by -37.5% against the previous month. Overall, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in March 2023 an increase of 33% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $751 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to October 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In October 2023, the countries with the highest prices were Iran ($321 per ton) and Moldova ($312 per ton), while the price for Turkey ($252 per ton) and Serbia ($305 per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From October 2022 to October 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+25.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average export price for onions, shallots, garlic, leeks and other alliaceous vegetables; fresh or chilleds stood at $928 per ton in 2022, surging by 1.8% against the previous year. Overall, the export price recorded a notable increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 an increase of 95%. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $1,445 per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($2,943 per ton), while the average price for exports to Poland ($494 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Luxembourg (+24.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
