In August 2023, the average import price for stainless steel in ingots or other primary forms amounted to $5,508 per ton, almost unchanged from the previous month. Overall, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in September 2022 when the average import price increased by 27% month-to-month. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $6,524 per ton. From October 2022 to August 2023, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was Italy ($5,941 per ton), while the price for India ($5,372 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by India (+2.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average export price for stainless steel in ingots or other primary forms stood at $7,387 per ton in August 2023, picking up by 71% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a slight reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in May 2023 when the average export price increased by 85% month-to-month. The export price peaked at $9,330 per ton in November 2022; however, from December 2022 to August 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for the Czech Republic.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Austria amounted to +0.2% per month.
