The average tobacco, unmanufactured; tobacco refuse import price stood at $5,065 per ton in December 2021, surging by 8.6% against the previous month. Overall, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in April 2021 when the average import price increased by 45% m-o-m. The import price peaked at $5,262 per ton in January 2021; however, from February 2021 to December 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In December 2021, the countries with the highest prices were Cambodia ($5,510 per ton) and India ($5,285 per ton), while the price for Brazil ($4,439 per ton) and China ($5,262 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From December 2020 to December 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Brazil (+2.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average tobacco, unmanufactured; tobacco refuse export price stood at $4,955 per ton in December 2021, remaining relatively unchanged against the previous month. Over the last twelve-month period, it increased at an average monthly rate of +4.2%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in February 2021 when the average export price increased by 33% m-o-m. The export price peaked in December 2021.
Average prices varied noticeably for the major export markets. In December 2021, the country with the highest price was the Philippines ($4,955 per ton), while the average price for exports to Cambodia stood at $4,955 per ton.
From December 2020 to December 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Cambodia (+5.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

After three years of growth, supplies from abroad of tobacco, unmanufactured; tobacco refuses decreased by -5% to 51K tons in 2022. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.1% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 11% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of 54K tons, and then declined slightly in the following year.
In value terms, tobacco, unmanufactured; tobacco refuse imports contracted slightly to $235M in 2022. In general, imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 6.1%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $242M, and then dropped in the following year.
