The countries with the highest volumes of production in 2022 were Singapore (1.1M units), the UK (777K units) and India (406K units), together comprising 56% of global production. China, Slovakia, Israel, South Africa, Australia, the United States, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands and France lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 35%.

Imports

World Imports of Printing Presses

In 2022, approx. 1.8M units of printing presses were imported worldwide; flattening at 2021. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 48% against the previous year. Over the period under review, global imports hit record highs at 2.8M units in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

At the same time, Myanmar (+53.1%), India (+25.5%), Malaysia (+22.9%), Mexico (+13.6%) and Canada (+2.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Myanmar emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the world, with a CAGR of +53.1% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Spain (-1.3%), Singapore (-1.8%), Vietnam (-2.3%), Egypt (-3.6%), Russia (-6.3%), the UK (-8.0%) and South Africa (-8.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of the United States, India, Malaysia, Mexico and Myanmar increased by +19, +4.4, +2.6, +2.2 and +1.9 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the United States ($689M) constitutes the largest market for imported printing presses worldwide, comprising 13% of global imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by India ($238M), with a 4.5% share of global imports. It was followed by the UK, with a 2.5% share.

In the United States, printing press imports increased at an average annual rate of +1.6% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: India (-1.8% per year) and the UK (-4.2% per year).
