Almond Production in Turkey - 2022

After five years of growth, production of almonds decreased by -5.3% to 169K tons in 2022. Overall, the total production indicated prominent growth from 2017 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +13.4% over the last five years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, production increased by +87.3% against 2017 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 50% against the previous year. Over the period under review, production reached the maximum volume at 178K tons in 2021, and then declined in the following year. Almond output in Turkey indicated a resilient expansion, which was largely conditioned by buoyant growth of the harvested area and a tangible expansion in yield figures.

In value terms, almond production surged to $487M in 2022 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 204%. As a result, production reached the peak level of $585M. From 2021 to 2022, production growth failed to regain momentum.

Almond Harvested Area in Turkey - 2022

In 2022, approx. 55K ha of almonds were harvested in Turkey; waning by -4.6% on the previous year's figure. In general, the total harvested area indicated prominent growth from 2017 to 2022: its figure increased at an average annual rate of +9.4% over the last five years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, almond harvested area increased by +56.4% against 2017 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 20%. The almond harvested area peaked at 58K ha in 2021, and then fell modestly in the following year.

Almond Yield in Turkey - 2022

The average yield of almonds in Turkey contracted modestly to 3.1 tons per ha in 2022, leveling off at the previous year's figure. The yield figure increased at an average annual rate of +3.7% over the period from 2017 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 34% against the previous year. As a result, the yield attained the peak level of 3.2 tons per ha. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of the average almond yield remained at a somewhat lower figure.
