The average spices; nutmeg import price stood at $5,574 per ton in 2022, with a decrease of -14.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, enjoyed a significant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when the average import price increased by 38%. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $6,544 per ton in 2021, and then shrank in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($10,050 per ton), while the price for South Africa ($1,333 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United Arab Emirates (+28.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

After two years of decline, purchases abroad of spices; nutmeg increased by 8.3% to 209 kg in 2022. Overall, imports, however, saw a abrupt decrease.
In value terms, spices; nutmeg imports declined to $1.2K in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +8.9% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 18%.
