Tantalum Price in Russia (CIF) - 2022
In January 2022, the average tantalum import price amounted to $644K per ton, growing by 30% against the previous month. Overall, import price indicated a remarkable increase from January 2021 to January 2022: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +7.3% over the last twelve-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on January 2022 figures, tantalum import price increased by +29.5% against December 2021 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in February 2021 when the average import price increased by 143% against the previous month. The import price peaked at $735K per ton in July 2021; however, from August 2021 to January 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In January 2022, the country with the highest price was China ($651K per ton), while the price for Kazakhstan amounted to $618K per ton.
From January 2021 to January 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+7.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Tantalum Price in Russia (FOB) - 2022
In 2022, the average tantalum export price amounted to $225,533 per ton, falling by -8.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when the average export price increased by 62% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $510,014 per ton. From 2015 to 2022, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied noticeably for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Estonia ($229,553 per ton), while the average price for exports to South Korea totaled $221,824 per ton.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Brazil (+0.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
Tantalum Imports in Russia
In 2022, approx. 26 tons of tantalum were imported into Russia; rising by 136% compared with the previous year. Overall, imports, however, saw a abrupt setback.
In value terms, tantalum imports surged to $11M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a drastic downturn.

Tantalum Exports in Russia
In 2022, overseas shipments of tantalum decreased by -25.2% to 8.7 tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded significant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 195% against the previous year.
In value terms, tantalum exports declined notably to $2M in 2022. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a significant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 168% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $2.8M, and then contracted sharply in the following year.
