Morocco was the largest exporter of eggplants (aubergines) in Africa, with the volume of exports amounting to X tons, which was approx. X% of total exports in 2023. Egypt (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Uganda (X tons) and Kenya (X tons). All these countries together took approx. X% share of total exports. The following exporters - Guinea (X tons) and Burkina Faso (X tons) - each accounted for a X% share of total exports.

Moreover, Uganda emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Africa, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2023. By contrast, Kenya (X%) and Guinea (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Morocco (X p.p.), Egypt (X p.p.) and Uganda (X p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2023, the share of Guinea (X p.p.) and Kenya (X p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

The export price in Africa stood at $X per ton in 2023, picking up by X% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a pronounced setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 an increase of X%. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2023, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Uganda ($X per ton), while Burkina Faso ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Uganda (X%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Over the period under review, imports recorded a buoyant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of X%. The volume of import peaked in 2023 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, eggplant imports surged to $X in 2023. In general, imports continue to indicate a significant increase. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Nigeria was the main importer of eggplants (aubergines) in Africa, with the volume of imports resulting at X tons, which was approx. X% of total imports in 2023. South Africa (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Seychelles (X tons). All these countries together held near X% share of total imports.
