Exports in Western Africa

In 2023, shipments abroad of lime increased by X% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. Total exports indicated a tangible increase from 2012 to 2023: its volume increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last eleven-year period. The shipments of the one major exporters of lime, namely Ghana, represented more than two-thirds of total export.

Ghana was also the fastest-growing in terms of the lime exports, with a CAGR of X% from 2012 to 2023. The shares of the largest exporters remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Ghana ($X) also remains the largest lime supplier in Western Africa.

Imports in Western Africa

In 2023, lime imports in Western Africa dropped slightly to X tons, remaining relatively unchanged against the previous year. Overall, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2022, and then declined slightly in the following year.

In value terms, lime imports expanded notably to $X in 2023. Total imports indicated a pronounced expansion from 2012 to 2023: its value increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last eleven-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2023 figures, imports increased by X% against 2017 indices. In 2023, Ghana (X tons) was the major importer of lime, creating X% of total imports. Burkina Faso (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a X% share, followed by Cote d'Ivoire (X%), Guinea (X%) and Mali (X%). The following importers - Mauritania (X tons) and Nigeria (X tons) - each finished at a X% share of total imports.

Ghana experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of imports of lime. At the same time, Mali (X%), Cote d'Ivoire (X%) and Burkina Faso (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Mali emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Western Africa, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2023. Guinea and Nigeria experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Mauritania (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2023, the share of Burkina Faso, Cote d'Ivoire and Mali increased by X, X and X percentage points, respectively. Import Prices by Country

The import price in Western Africa stood at $X per ton in 2023, increasing by X% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2023, it increased at an average annual rate of X%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2022 when the import price increased by X% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2023 and is likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Burkina Faso ($X per ton), while Guinea ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
