The average unmanufactured tobacco yield dropped slightly to X kg per ha in 2022, standing approx. at the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, the yield, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the yield increased by X% against the previous year. As a result, the yield attained the peak level of X kg per ha. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of the unmanufactured tobacco yield remained at a somewhat lower figure. Despite the increased use of modern agricultural techniques and methods, future yield figures may still be impacted by adverse weather conditions.

From 2018 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, unmanufactured tobacco exports contracted remarkably to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports recorded a pronounced descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of X%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
In 2022, Senegal (X tons) was the main exporter of tobacco (unmanufactured), constituting X% of total exports. Cote d'Ivoire (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Nigeria (X tons). All these countries together took near X% share of total exports. Sierra Leone (X tons) held a minor share of total exports.
Senegal was also the fastest-growing in terms of the tobacco (unmanufactured) exports, with a CAGR of X% from 2012 to 2022. Sierra Leone (X%), Nigeria (X%) and Cote d'Ivoire (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Senegal (X p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Nigeria and Cote d'Ivoire saw its share reduced by X% and X% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, unmanufactured tobacco imports surged to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of X% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
Imports by Country
Nigeria represented the major importer of tobacco (unmanufactured) in Western Africa, with the volume of imports reaching X tons, which was approx. X% of total imports in 2022.
