In 2023, imports of radio receivers into Germany declined sharply to 8.8M units, shrinking by -21% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports recorded a slight setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 128%. As a result, imports reached the peak of 16M units. From 2016 to 2023, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, radio receiver imports shrank to $580M (IndexBox estimates) in 2023. In general, imports showed a abrupt curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2022 with an increase of 7% against the previous year. Imports by Country

In 2023, China (3.9M units) constituted the largest supplier of radio receiver to Germany, accounting for a 44% share of total imports. Moreover, radio receiver imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Hungary (1.5M units), threefold. the Netherlands (684K units) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 7.8% share.

From 2013 to 2023, the average annual growth rate of volume from China stood at -4.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Hungary (+6.8% per year) and the Netherlands (+0.8% per year).

In value terms, Hungary ($191M), China ($122M) and Portugal ($47M) were the largest radio receiver suppliers to Germany, with a combined 62% share of total imports. Malaysia, Poland, the Netherlands, Vietnam and the Czech Republic lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 23%.

Among the main suppliers, Vietnam, with a CAGR of +45.3%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports by Type

Radio-broadcast receivers; operational without external power source, without sound recording or reproducing apparatus, including apparatus capable of receiving radio-telephony or radio-telegraphy (2.8M units), radio-broadcast receivers (2.1M units) and radio-broadcast receivers n.e.c. in heading no. 8527; combined with sound recording or reproducing apparatus (1.2M units) were the main products of radio receiver imports to Germany, together accounting for 70% of total imports.

From 2013 to 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the major product types, was attained by radio-broadcast receivers; operational without external power source, without sound recording or reproducing apparatus, including apparatus capable of receiving radio-telephony or radio-telegraphy (with a CAGR of +18.1%), while imports for the other products experienced mixed trend patterns.

In value terms, radio-broadcast receivers ($254M), radio-broadcast receivers n.e.c. in heading no. 8527; combined with sound recording or reproducing apparatus ($132M) and radio receivers for motor vehicles ($72M) appeared to be the most imported types of radio receivers in Germany, with a combined 79% share of total imports.

Import Prices by Country

In 2023, the radio receiver price amounted to $66 per unit (CIF, Germany), rising by 17% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, saw a abrupt decrease. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when the average import price increased by 29% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $177 per unit. From 2015 to 2023, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2023, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Malaysia ($167 per unit), while the price for Indonesia ($17 per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2013 to 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Portugal (+4.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
