The average alkali metals; sodium import price stood at $868 per ton in 2022, remaining relatively unchanged against the previous year. Overall, the import price recorded a noticeable curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the average import price increased by 15%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $1,356 per ton. From 2014 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($3,894 per ton), while the price for China ($122 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Sweden (+3.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

In 2022, approx. 1.2 tons of alkali metals; sodia were imported into Kuwait; therefore, remained relatively stable against 2021. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +10.6% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 35%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.
In value terms, alkali metals; sodium imports reached $1.1K in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +5.0% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 16%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $1.1K; afterwards, it flattened through to 2022.
