The average alkali metals; sodium import price stood at $6,229 per ton in 2022, which is down by -3.5% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a remarkable increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when the average import price increased by 167% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $6,456 per ton in 2021, and then fell modestly in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was China ($10,650 per ton), while the price for Taiwan (Chinese) ($1,545 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+24.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average alkali metals; sodium export price amounted to $3,438 per ton, growing by 8.8% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, saw a pronounced setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 an increase of 93% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $5,213 per ton. From 2020 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Philippines ($7,597 per ton), while the average price for exports to Myanmar ($1,464 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Philippines (+7.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

For the fourth year in a row, Thailand recorded growth in shipments abroad of alkali metals; sodia, which increased by 61% to 21 tons in 2022. Overall, exports continue to indicate a significant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 99% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.
