The countries with the highest volumes of consumption in 2022 were Hong Kong SAR (7M units), Turkey (6.4M units) and Brazil (6M units), with a combined 92% share of global consumption.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Brazil (with a CAGR of +829.9%), while consumption for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Switzerland ($616M) led the market, alone. The second position in the ranking was held by Hong Kong SAR ($66M). It was followed by Brazil.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Switzerland totaled +262.2%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Hong Kong SAR (-3.2% per year) and Brazil (-13.8% per year).
In 2022, the highest levels of artificial teeth per capita consumption was registered in Hong Kong SAR (926 units per 1000 persons), followed by Switzerland (83 units per 1000 persons), Turkey (75 units per 1000 persons) and Brazil (28 units per 1000 persons), while the world average per capita consumption of artificial teeth was estimated at 2.7 units per 1000 persons.

Production
World Production of Artificial Teeth
After two years of growth, production of artificial teeth decreased by -42.3% to 8.1M units in 2022. In general, production, however, posted significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the production volume increased by 546% against the previous year. As a result, production reached the peak volume of 14M units, and then reduced remarkably in the following year.
In value terms, artificial teeth production stood at $2.3B in 2022 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production, however, showed strong growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when the production volume increased by 45%. Global production peaked at $3.2B in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, production failed to regain momentum.
Production By Country
Turkey (6.3M units) remains the largest artificial teeth producing country worldwide, comprising approx. 78% of total volume. Moreover, artificial teeth production in Turkey exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest producer, Switzerland (747K units), eightfold. Hong Kong SAR (458K units) ranked third in terms of total production with a 5.7% share.
In Turkey, artificial teeth production expanded at an average annual rate of +610.2% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining producing countries recorded the following average annual rates of production growth: Switzerland (+3.3% per year) and Hong Kong SAR (-13.4% per year).
Imports
World Imports of Artificial Teeth
After two years of growth, supplies from abroad of artificial teeth decreased by -71.4% to 15M units in 2022. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a significant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 696,187% against the previous year. Global imports peaked at 52M units in 2021, and then fell sharply in the following year.
In value terms, artificial teeth imports stood at $918M in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated resilient growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +41.7% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 40%. Global imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
Imports By Country
Hong Kong SAR (6.7M units) and Brazil (6M units) represented the key importers of artificial teeth in 2022, finishing at near 45% and 40% of total imports, respectively. It was distantly followed by the Philippines (2M units), constituting a 13% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Brazil (with a CAGR of +2,513.4%), while purchases for the other global leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.
In value terms, Hong Kong SAR ($63M) constitutes the largest market for imported artificial teeth worldwide, comprising 6.9% of global imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the Philippines ($14M), with a 1.5% share of global imports.
In Hong Kong SAR, artificial teeth imports expanded at an average annual rate of +3.0% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the Philippines (+22.7% per year) and Brazil (+9.4% per year).
Import Prices By Country
In 2022, the average artificial teeth import price amounted to $62 per unit, picking up by 253% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a precipitous contraction. Global import price peaked at $546,390 per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Hong Kong SAR ($9.5 per unit), while Brazil ($0.8 per unit) was amongst the lowest.

Exports
Exports By Country
The Philippines dominates exports structure, finishing at 1.6M units, which was near 81% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Hong Kong SAR (100K units) and Israel (99K units), together committing a 10% share of total exports. The following exporters - Switzerland (35K units) and Japan (32K units) - each recorded a 3.5% share of total exports.
The Philippines was also the fastest-growing in terms of the artificial teeth exports, with a CAGR of +490.1% from 2020 to 2022. At the same time, Japan (+61.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Hong Kong SAR (-6.0%), Israel (-14.9%) and Switzerland (-48.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2020 to 2022, the share of the Philippines increased by +73 percentage points. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Hong Kong SAR ($140M) remains the largest artificial teeth supplier worldwide, comprising 13% of global exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Israel ($64M), with a 5.7% share of global exports. It was followed by the Philippines, with a 1.2% share.
In Hong Kong SAR, artificial teeth exports expanded at an average annual rate of +20.2% over the period from 2020-2022. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Israel (+7.2% per year) and the Philippines (+41.3% per year).
Export Prices By Country
In 2022, the average artificial teeth export price amounted to $572 per unit, reducing by -34.4% against the previous year. Overall, the export price saw a dramatic setback. The global export price peaked at $1,509 per unit in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Hong Kong SAR ($1,405 per unit), while the Philippines ($8.7 per unit) was amongst the lowest.
