Asparagus Price in Latvia (CIF) - 2022
In 2022, the average asparagus import price amounted to $6,578 per ton, shrinking by -5.4% against the previous year. In general, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the average import price increased by 7.9%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $7,865 per ton. From 2018 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($10,019 per ton), while the price for Italy ($3,641 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Spain (+9.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Asparagus Price in Latvia (FOB) - 2022
In 2022, the average asparagus export price amounted to $7,074 per ton, falling by -17.4% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when the average export price increased by 20%. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $11,388 per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Lithuania ($7,433 per ton), while the average price for exports to Estonia amounted to $6,692 per ton.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Lithuania (+2.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
Asparagus Imports in Latvia
In 2022, the amount of asparagus imported into Latvia shrank to 200 tons, falling by -5.7% against 2021. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +8.7% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 38% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of 212 tons, and then contracted in the following year.
In value terms, asparagus imports declined to $1.3M in 2022.
