The average asses; live export price stood at $22 per unit in 2022, shrinking by -20% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price saw a sharp decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the average export price increased by 151% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $420 per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Rwanda ($39 per unit), while the average price for exports to Burundi stood at $4.2 per unit.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Rwanda (-20.2%).

Asses; Live Exports in Uganda

After three years of growth, overseas shipments of asses; lives decreased by 0% to 36 units in 2022. Over the period under review, total exports indicated prominent growth from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +19.7% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +71.4% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when exports increased by 33%. The exports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, asses; live exports fell sharply to $779 in 2022. In general, exports showed a dramatic curtailment. The smallest decline of -20% was in 2020. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $1.5K in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
