Banana and Plantain Price in Iran (CIF) - 2022
The average banana and plantain import price stood at $425 per ton in 2022, waning by -30.1% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate strong growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 an increase of 112% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $621 per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Philippines ($791 per ton), while the price for India ($465 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Philippines (+14.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Banana and Plantain Price in Iran (FOB) - 2022
In 2022, the average banana and plantain export price amounted to $1,395 per ton, which is down by -14.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, posted a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 1,084%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $4,289 per ton. From 2019 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Poland ($1,473 per ton), while the average price for exports to Sweden ($157 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Afghanistan (+10.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Banana and Plantain Imports in Iran
In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas purchases of bananas and plantains, when their volume decreased by -78.9% to 186K tons. In general, imports recorded a precipitous contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 43%. As a result, imports reached the peak of 881K tons, and then shrank markedly in the following year.
In value terms, banana and plantain imports dropped significantly to $79M in 2022. Overall, imports faced a dramatic curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 40% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $536M, and then plummeted in the following year.
