Banana Price in Lithuania (CIF) - 2023
In October 2023, the average banana import price amounted to $970 per ton, with an increase of 13% against the previous month. Overall, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in September 2023 an increase of 21% against the previous month. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $1,112 per ton in December 2022; however, from January 2023 to October 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In October 2023, the highest price was recorded for prices from Belgium ($1,241 per ton) and Latvia ($1,092 per ton), while the price for Ecuador ($890 per ton) and France ($945 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From October 2022 to October 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Latvia (+0.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
Banana Price in Lithuania (FOB) - 2023
The average banana export price stood at $958 per ton in October 2023, increasing by 1.9% against the previous month. In general, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in August 2023 when the average export price increased by 24% against the previous month. The export price peaked at $1,257 per ton in December 2022; however, from January 2023 to October 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In October 2023, the country with the highest price was Latvia ($1,060 per ton), while the average price for exports to Poland ($101 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From October 2022 to October 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Belarus (+9.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.
Banana Imports in Lithuania
In 2022, purchases abroad of bananas decreased by -16.4% to 41K tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. Over the period under review, imports saw a perceptible decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 17% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of 51K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, banana imports reduced slightly to $35M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.2% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 12%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $36M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

Banana Exports in Lithuania
In 2022, shipments abroad of bananas decreased by -18.7% to 6.6K tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a deep contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 8.1% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 13K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, banana exports shrank to $5.8M in 2022. In general, exports showed a drastic downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 6.6% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $10M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
