Banana Price in Peru (FOB) - 2022
In 2022, the average banana export price amounted to $703 per ton, standing approx. at the previous year. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when the average export price increased by 4.5%. The export price peaked at $759 per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the countries with the highest prices were Japan ($832 per ton) and South Korea ($756 per ton), while the average price for exports to Panama ($639 per ton) and the United States ($657 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Japan (+2.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Banana Price in Peru (CIF) - 2022
In 2022, the average banana import price amounted to $1,042 per ton, shrinking by -40.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price faced a deep downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when the average import price increased by 34%. The import price peaked at $3,741 per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
As there is only one major supplying country, the average price level is determined by prices for Chile.
From 2015 to 2022, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Ecuador amounted to -14.5% per year.
Banana Exports in Peru
For the third consecutive year, Peru recorded decline in overseas shipments of bananas, which decreased by -20.1% to 165K tons in 2022. Over the period under review, exports saw a deep downturn. The smallest decline of -2.3% was in 2021.
In value terms, banana exports plummeted to $116M in 2022. Overall, exports recorded a deep reduction. The smallest decline of -2.4% was in 2021.

Banana Imports in Peru
In 2022, the amount of bananas imported into Peru dropped remarkably to 14 tons, which is down by -15.2% compared with the previous year's figure. In general, imports, however, posted significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 24,743%. As a result, imports reached the peak of 17 tons, and then shrank remarkably in the following year.
In value terms, banana imports declined rapidly to $15K in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate prominent growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 29,057% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $30K, and then reduced sharply in the following year.
