Barley Price in Tanzania (CIF) - 2022
The average barley import price stood at $733 per ton in 2022, with an increase of 7.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price posted a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the average import price increased by 203%. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $747 per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was South Africa ($1,062 per ton), while the price for the United Arab Emirates ($629 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Australia (+64.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Barley Price in Tanzania (FOB) - 2022
The average barley export price stood at $91 per ton in 2022, jumping by 16% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a sharp downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when the average export price increased by 750% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $1,006 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for Uganda.
From 2012 to 2022, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Uganda amounted to -21.4% per year.
Barley Imports in Tanzania
In 2022, purchases abroad of barley decreased by -96.6% to 7.6 tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Overall, imports continue to indicate a dramatic curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 166%. As a result, imports attained the peak of 237 tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, barley imports contracted notably to $5.5K in 2022. In general, imports recorded a precipitous shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 71%.

Barley Exports in Tanzania
