Beef Price in Saudi Arabia (CIF) - 2022
In 2022, the average beef import price amounted to $4,906 per ton, which is down by -1.9% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.5%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when the average import price increased by 8.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $4,999 per ton in 2021, and then dropped modestly in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Australia ($9,393 per ton), while the price for India ($3,258 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Australia (+9.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Beef Price in Saudi Arabia (FOB) - 2022
The average beef export price stood at $3,850 per ton in 2022, shrinking by -7.8% against the previous year. Overall, export price indicated a moderate increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, beef export price decreased by -21.9% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 an increase of 82% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $4,928 per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Oman ($7,674 per ton), while the average price for exports to Yemen ($936 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Iraq (+10.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Beef Imports in Saudi Arabia
In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in purchases abroad of beef (cattle meat), when their volume decreased by -8.9% to 118K tons. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.1% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 17%. As a result, imports reached the peak of 130K tons, and then reduced in the following year.
In value terms, beef imports fell to $581M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +6.4% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 21%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $650M, and then contracted in the following year.
