Beer Price in Bulgaria (CIF) - 2023
The average beer import price stood at $1.1 per litre in July 2023, growing by 1.8% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate strong growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in March 2023 when the average import price increased by 19% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum in July 2023.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Mexico ($2.1 per litre), while the price for Poland ($681 per thousand litres) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Romania (+9.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Beer Price in Bulgaria (FOB) - 2023
The average beer export price stood at $1.3 per litre in July 2023, remaining stable against the previous month. Overall, export price indicated pronounced growth from July 2022 to July 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +3.5% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on July 2023 figures, beer export price increased by +10.0% against April 2023 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in December 2022 an increase of 29% against the previous month. The export price peaked at $1.4 per litre in March 2023; however, from April 2023 to July 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major overseas markets. In July 2023, the highest price was recorded for prices to the UK ($1.3 per litre) and North Macedonia ($1.2 per litre), while the average price for exports to Germany ($977 per thousand litres) and the Netherlands ($1.0 per litre) were amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Cyprus (+5.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Beer Imports in Bulgaria
After three years of growth, supplies from abroad of beer decreased by -3% to 77M litres in 2022. In general, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 2.1% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 80M litres, and then declined slightly in the following year.
In value terms, beer imports fell rapidly to $47M in 2022. Overall, imports continue to indicate a perceptible contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 10% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $59M, and then dropped markedly in the following year.

Beer Exports in Bulgaria
In 2022, shipments abroad of beer decreased by -68.6% to 3.3M litres, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. In general, exports recorded a sharp decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 6%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 20M litres. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, beer exports reduced markedly to $3M in 2022. Over the period under review, exports showed a precipitous descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 0.4% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $23M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
