Beer Price in Nigeria (FOB) - 2022
The average beer export price stood at $0.4 per litre in 2022, with a decrease of -22.1% against the previous year. Overall, the export price recorded a abrupt decrease. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when the average export price increased by 56% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $1 per litre in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Cameroon ($1.1 per litre), while the average price for exports to Togo (less than $0.1 per litre) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Cameroon (+3.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
Beer Price in Nigeria (CIF) - 2022
In 2022, the average beer import price amounted to $1 per litre, rising by 1.5% against the previous year. Overall, import price indicated perceptible growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, beer import price decreased by -6.1% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when the average import price increased by 38% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $1 per litre in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($3.8 per litre), while the price for Benin ($0.6 per litre) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+24.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Beer Exports in Nigeria
Beer exports from Nigeria declined significantly to 7.6M litres in 2022, which is down by -53.7% on the previous year. In general, exports recorded a abrupt contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 153%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 16M litres, and then dropped markedly in the following year.
In value terms, beer exports fell notably to $3.1M in 2022. Overall, exports faced a abrupt shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 91% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $8.5M, and then shrank rapidly in the following year.

Beer Imports in Nigeria
In 2022, the amount of beer imported into Nigeria dropped to 11K litres, which is down by -3.5% on the previous year. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a sharp curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 7.3%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at 25K litres in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
