Beer Price in Romania (CIF) - 2022
The average beer import price stood at $0.8 per litre in 2022, declining by -4.4% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 an increase of 6.9%. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $0.8 per litre in 2021, and then dropped slightly in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Mexico ($1.5 per litre), while the price for Hungary ($0.3 per litre) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Slovakia (+8.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Beer Price in Romania (FOB) - 2023
The average beer export price stood at $807 per thousand litres in July 2023, surging by 17% against the previous month. Over the period from July 2022 to July 2023, it increased at an average monthly rate of +4.0%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was the UK ($1.2 per litre), while the average price for exports to Hungary ($494 per thousand litres) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Bulgaria (+8.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Beer Imports in Romania
For the fourth year in a row, Romania recorded growth in purchases abroad of beer, which increased by 14% to 77M litres in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated prominent growth from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +15.6% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +54.6% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 25%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.
In value terms, beer imports totaled $59M in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a resilient increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +15.2% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +53.0% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 27% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
