Bovine Animals; Live Price in Hungary (FOB) - 2023

In August 2023, the average bovine animals; live export price amounted to $1,232 per unit, dropping by -6.7% against the previous month. Overall, export price indicated a tangible expansion from August 2022 to August 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +2.3% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on August 2023 figures, bovine animals; live export price decreased by -16.2% against June 2023 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in January 2023 an increase of 20% against the previous month. The export price peaked at $1,471 per unit in June 2023; afterwards, it flattened through to August 2023.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Turkey ($1,946 per unit), while the average price for exports to Kosovo ($750 per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Croatia (+5.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average bovine animals; live import price stood at $1,595 per unit in July 2023, falling by -3.9% against the previous month. Over the period under review, import price indicated a notable expansion from July 2022 to July 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +4.2% over the last twelve-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on July 2023 figures, bovine animals; live import price increased by +13.9% against December 2022 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in August 2022 an increase of 17% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $1,660 per unit in June 2023, and then contracted modestly in the following month.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was Slovakia ($4,429 per unit), while the price for Latvia ($1,065 per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Slovakia (+14.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, bovine animals; live exports from Hungary totaled 235K units, increasing by 11% on 2021. In general, exports continue to indicate a significant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 64% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, bovine animals; live exports reduced modestly to $220M in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +7.3% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 23%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $228M, and then fell modestly in the following year.

In general, imports, however, enjoyed a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 114%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at 75K units in 2021, and then shrank markedly in the following year.

In value terms, bovine animals; live imports reduced notably to $35M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, enjoyed a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 73% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $67M, and then contracted rapidly in the following year.
