Breakfast Cereal Price in South Africa (FOB) - 2023
In September 2023, the average breakfast cereal export price amounted to $1,635 per ton, declining by -6.6% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in April 2023 when the average export price increased by 11% m-o-m. The export price peaked at $1,751 per ton in August 2023, and then reduced in the following month.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Zimbabwe ($4,075 per ton), while the average price for exports to Lesotho ($903 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Zimbabwe (+12.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In September 2023, the average breakfast cereal import price amounted to $2,215 per ton, dropping by -2.9% against the previous month. Over the period from September 2022 to September 2023, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.5%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in April 2023 an increase of 39% month-to-month. The import price peaked at $2,673 per ton in July 2023; however, from August 2023 to September 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In September 2023, the country with the highest price was Spain ($5,348 per ton), while the price for Namibia ($764 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+5.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
