Brown Rice Price in China (FOB) - 2022
The average brown rice export price stood at $738 per ton in 2022, almost unchanged from the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the average export price increased by 16% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $822 per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was South Korea ($923 per ton), while the average price for exports to Bulgaria totaled $331 per ton.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Bulgaria (+3.0%).
Brown Rice Price in China (CIF) - 2022
In 2022, the average brown rice import price amounted to $795 per ton, dropping by -16.6% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, posted resilient growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when the average import price increased by 179% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $953 per ton, and then reduced markedly in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Thailand ($1,283 per ton), while the price for Vietnam ($520 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Lao People's Democratic Republic (+9.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Brown Rice Exports in China
For the fourth consecutive year, China recorded growth in shipments abroad of husked (brown) rice, which increased by 7.9% to 287K tons in 2022. Overall, total exports indicated prominent growth from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +16.6% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +58.7% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 43% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
In value terms, brown rice exports rose markedly to $212M in 2022. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a significant increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +21.4% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +78.9% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 43% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

Brown Rice Imports in China
In 2022, overseas purchases of husked (brown) rice decreased by -22.5% to 516 tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. Overall, imports continue to indicate a deep slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 418%. As a result, imports reached the peak of 3.4K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, brown rice imports shrank sharply to $411K in 2022. In general, imports, however, posted a resilient expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 351%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $1.2M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
