Brown Rice Price in Thailand (FOB) - 2023
In July 2023, the average brown rice export price amounted to $683 per ton, with an increase of 24% against the previous month. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a pronounced setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in November 2022 an increase of 52% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $918 per ton in July 2022; however, from August 2022 to July 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was South Africa ($4,373 per ton), while the average price for exports to South Korea ($497 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to South Africa (+20.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Brown Rice Price in Thailand (CIF) - 2022
The average brown rice import price stood at $4,972 per ton in 2022, picking up by 122% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price posted strong growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 272%. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $5,208 per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($14,940 per ton), while the price for Bhutan ($720 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (+11.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Brown Rice Exports in Thailand
In 2022, shipments abroad of husked (brown) rice decreased by -5.4% to 105K tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. Over the period under review, exports saw a abrupt descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 8.9%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 147K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, brown rice exports fell to $71M in 2022. In general, exports showed a abrupt decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 5.2%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $105M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Brown Rice Imports in Thailand
For the third year in a row, Thailand recorded decline in overseas purchases of husked (brown) rice, which decreased by -59.8% to 105 kg in 2022. Over the period under review, imports recorded a dramatic downturn. The smallest decline of -47.9% was in 2021.
In value terms, brown rice imports dropped to $521 in 2022. Overall, imports faced a sharp downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 2.8%.
