Canned Vegetable Price in Latvia (CIF) - 2023
In September 2023, the average canned vegetable import price amounted to $2,822 per ton, with an increase of 3.9% against the previous month. Over the period from September 2022 to September 2023, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.4%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in January 2023 when the average import price increased by 13% against the previous month. The import price peaked at $3,005 per ton in July 2023; however, from August 2023 to September 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Lithuania ($3,620 per ton), while the price for India ($1,136 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Spain (+4.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Canned Vegetable Price in Latvia (FOB) - 2023
In September 2023, the average canned vegetable export price amounted to $2,369 per ton, waning by -27.1% against the previous month. In general, the export price showed a slight setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in December 2022 an increase of 20% against the previous month. The export price peaked at $3,266 per ton in July 2023; however, from August 2023 to September 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In September 2023, the country with the highest price was Russia ($3,842 per ton), while the average price for exports to Germany ($497 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Netherlands (+4.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Canned Vegetable Imports in Latvia
In 2022, purchases abroad of canned vegetables decreased by -2.9% to 16K tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.8% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 14% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of 16K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, canned vegetable imports expanded markedly to $34M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +8.8% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 14%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
