Caramel Price in Greece (CIF) - 2023
In June 2023, the average caramel import price amounted to $2,174 per ton, growing by 15% against the previous month. Overall, import price indicated a pronounced expansion from June 2022 to June 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +3.8% over the last twelve-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on June 2023 figures, caramel import price decreased by -5.7% against April 2023 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in July 2022 an increase of 21% m-o-m. The import price peaked at $2,306 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to June 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Italy ($3,580 per ton), while the price for Austria ($1,205 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Italy (+8.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Caramel Price in Greece (FOB) - 2022
In 2022, the average caramel export price amounted to $1,799 per ton, reducing by -12.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate a slight decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the average export price increased by 57%. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $2,419 per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($15,863 per ton), while the average price for exports to the Czech Republic ($788 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Italy (+298.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Caramel Imports in Greece
After three years of growth, purchases abroad of caramel decreased by -3.9% to 4.5K tons in 2022. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.7% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 16% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 4.7K tons, and then dropped modestly in the following year.
In value terms, caramel imports stood at $7.3M in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated resilient growth from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +18.7% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +67.2% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 28%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
