Caramel Price in Singapore (CIF) - 2022
In 2022, the average caramel import price amounted to $1,071 per ton, approximately reflecting the previous year. In general, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 17% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $1,225 per ton. From 2015 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Belgium ($2,416 per ton), while the price for Thailand ($646 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (+2.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Caramel Price in Singapore (FOB) - 2022
The average caramel export price stood at $2,541 per ton in 2022, dropping by -18.5% against the previous year. Overall, the export price showed a perceptible shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the average export price increased by 74% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $4,459 per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Philippines ($8,150 per ton), while the average price for exports to Malaysia ($767 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Philippines (+12.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Caramel Imports in Singapore
After three years of growth, overseas purchases of caramel decreased by -5.6% to 47K tons in 2022. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.5% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 13% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 49K tons, and then reduced in the following year.
In value terms, caramel imports declined to $50M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.0% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 12%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $53M, and then reduced in the following year.

Caramel Exports in Singapore
In 2022, after three years of growth, there was decline in shipments abroad of caramel, when their volume decreased by -1.4% to 3.8K tons. In general, exports, however, saw a significant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 81%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 3.9K tons, and then contracted modestly in the following year.
In value terms, caramel exports reduced markedly to $9.7M in 2022. Overall, total exports indicated a strong increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +15.2% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +52.8% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by 64%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $12M, and then reduced remarkably in the following year.
