Carbonates; Potassium Carbonate Price in Turkey (CIF) - 2023
In July 2023, the average carbonates; potassium carbonate import price amounted to $1,413 per ton, reducing by -9.5% against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in November 2022 when the average import price increased by 29% m-o-m. The import price peaked at $2,264 per ton in February 2023; however, from March 2023 to July 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was the United States ($1,863 per ton), while the price for Russia ($1,104 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (+8.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

The average carbonates; potassium carbonate export price stood at $1,462 per ton in 2022, surging by 42% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.7%. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $1,524 per ton in 2014; afterwards, it flattened through to 2022.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($2,440 per ton), while the average price for exports to Ukraine ($600 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Canada (+17.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

For the fourth year in a row, Turkey recorded growth in purchases abroad of carbonates; potassium carbonates, which increased by 9.5% to 21K tons in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a prominent increase from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +15.9% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +55.7% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 28%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.
In value terms, carbonates; potassium carbonate imports soared to $27M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports showed significant growth. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In general, exports saw a significant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when exports increased by 45% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, carbonates; potassium carbonate exports surged to $1.5M in 2022. Over the period under review, exports posted a significant expansion. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
