Carob Price in the UK (FOB) - 2022
The average carob export price stood at $3,232 per ton in 2022, surging by 15% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price saw a strong increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when the average export price increased by 244%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $5,335 per ton. From 2019 to 2022, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($5,279 per ton), while the average price for exports to Ireland ($763 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Germany (+12.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

The average carob import price stood at $1,675 per ton in 2022, surging by 4.6% against the previous year. In general, the import price showed a moderate expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 an increase of 85% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $6,627 per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($6,398 per ton), while the price for Nigeria ($237 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Portugal (+20.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Carob Exports in the UK
In 2022, shipments abroad of carob decreased by -43% to 215 tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Overall, exports showed a dramatic setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 34%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 768 tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, carob exports contracted dramatically to $694K in 2022. In general, exports continue to indicate a sharp decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 30%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $3.9M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
