Carrot and Turnip Price in South Korea (CIF) - 2022
In December 2022, the average carrot and turnip import price amounted to $332 per ton, dropping by -9.2% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate a noticeable downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in January 2022 when the average import price increased by 20% month-to-month. The import price peaked at $680 per ton in February 2022; however, from March 2022 to December 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
As there is only one major supplying country, the average price level is determined by prices for China.
From December 2021 to December 2022, the rate of growth in terms of prices for China amounted to -4.1% per month.
Carrot and Turnip Price in South Korea (FOB) - 2022
The average carrot and turnip export price stood at $962 per ton in 2022, which is down by -5.2% against the previous year. In general, the export price continues to indicate a mild decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when the average export price increased by 111%. The export price peaked at $1,301 per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($1,336 per ton), while the average price for exports to Guam ($884 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Vietnam (+45.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.
Carrot and Turnip Imports in South Korea
In 2022, after two years of decline, there was growth in supplies from abroad of carrots and turnips, when their volume increased by 4.9% to 96K tons. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a perceptible curtailment.
In value terms, carrot and turnip imports totaled $44M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +4.5% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 11%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In 2022, the amount of carrots and turnips exported from South Korea fell to 233 tons, which is down by -13.5% on 2021 figures. In general, exports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 30% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 269 tons, and then contracted in the following year.
In value terms, carrot and turnip exports fell markedly to $224K in 2022. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a buoyant expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +10.3% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +34.3% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 46% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $273K, and then declined rapidly in the following year.
