Cassava Price in China (CIF) - 2023
In June 2023, the average cassava import price amounted to $283 per ton, almost unchanged from the previous month. In general, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in March 2023 an increase of 2.8% m-o-m. The import price peaked at $307 per ton in August 2022; however, from September 2022 to June 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was Thailand ($284 per ton), while the price for Vietnam stood at $277 per ton.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Thailand (-0.4%).
Cassava Price in China (FOB) - 2022
In 2022, the average cassava export price amounted to $1,246 per ton, waning by -3.7% against the previous year. Overall, export price indicated a temperate expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, cassava export price increased by +3.0% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the average export price increased by 58%. The export price peaked at $1,473 per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Australia ($3,750 per ton), while the average price for exports to Ireland ($1,140 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the UK (+16.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Cassava Imports in China
For the fourth year in a row, China recorded growth in supplies from abroad of cassava, which increased by 29% to 7.1M tons in 2022. Over the period under review, imports recorded significant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 65%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, cassava imports soared to $2B in 2022. Overall, imports showed a significant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 96%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
