Cereal Germ Price in Italy (CIF) - 2022
In 2022, the average cereal germ import price amounted to $613 per ton, rising by 27% against the previous year. In general, import price indicated a mild expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, cereal germ import price increased by +96.0% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 37% against the previous year. The import price peaked in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Austria ($672 per ton), while the price for Slovenia ($355 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Hungary (+6.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Cereal Germ Price in Italy (FOB) - 2023
The average cereal germ export price stood at $1,650 per ton in June 2023, falling by -15.5% against the previous month. In general, the export price showed a slight setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in November 2022 when the average export price increased by 92% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $2,736 per ton in July 2022; however, from August 2022 to June 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was Israel ($5,798 per ton), while the average price for exports to Austria ($392 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Israel (+19.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Cereal Germ Imports in Italy
For the fourth consecutive year, Italy recorded growth in purchases abroad of cereal germ, which increased by 2.8% to 82K tons in 2022. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.2% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 9.8%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.
In value terms, cereal germ imports soared to $50M in 2022. Overall, imports recorded a significant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 41% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

Cereal Germ Exports in Italy
After three years of growth, overseas shipments of cereal germ decreased by -60.2% to 1.2K tons in 2022. Overall, exports, however, posted a measured increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 121%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 3K tons, and then fell dramatically in the following year.
In value terms, cereal germ exports shrank dramatically to $1M in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw resilient growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 182%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $3.3M, and then shrank notably in the following year.
