The average cereals; millet export price stood at $695 per ton in 2022, growing by 13% against the previous year. In general, the export price continues to indicate a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the average export price increased by 13%. The export price peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for Kenya.
From 2012 to 2022, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Kenya amounted to +10.6% per year.
Cereals; Millet Exports in Uganda
For the fourth year in a row, Uganda recorded growth in overseas shipments of cereals; millets, which increased by 6.5% to 14K tons in 2022. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.5% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 6.5%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.
In value terms, cereals; millet exports skyrocketed to $9.7M in 2022. Over the period under review, total exports indicated significant growth from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +20.0% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +72.8% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 20%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.
