Champagne Price in Germany (CIF) - 2023
The average champagne import price stood at $33.3 per litre in July 2023, shrinking by -11.2% against the previous month. Over the period under review, import price indicated a notable increase from July 2022 to July 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +2.0% over the last twelve-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on July 2023 figures, champagne import price decreased by -11.2% against June 2023 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in January 2023 an increase of 39% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $37.5 per litre in June 2023, and then contracted in the following month.
As there is only one major supplying country, the average price level is determined by prices for France.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the rate of growth in terms of prices for France amounted to +2.0% per month.
Champagne Price in Germany (FOB) - 2022
In 2022, the average champagne export price amounted to $33 per litre, waning by -21.4% against the previous year. Overall, export price indicated measured growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 37%. The export price peaked at $42 per litre in 2021, and then fell markedly in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was France ($57 per litre), while the average price for exports to Belgium ($21 per litre) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to France (+11.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Champagne Imports in Germany
In 2022, approx. 9.8M litres of champagne were imported into Germany; growing by 2.6% on 2021. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.9% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 24% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, champagne imports rose slightly to $264M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +5.5% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 28% against the previous year. Champagne Exports in Germany
In 2022, champagne exports from Germany surged to 1.5M litres, jumping by 47% on the year before. Overall, exports, however, showed a drastic downturn. The exports peaked at 1.9M litres in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, champagne exports skyrocketed to $51M in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 47% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $51M in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
