Cheese and Curd Price in Denmark (FOB) - 2023
The average cheese and curd export price stood at $4,801 per ton in July 2023, rising by 2.9% against the previous month. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in November 2022 when the average export price increased by 7.8% m-o-m. The export price peaked at $5,364 per ton in December 2022; however, from January 2023 to July 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was Greece ($5,739 per ton), while the average price for exports to France ($3,780 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Greece (+0.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average cheese and curd import price stood at $5,034 per ton in July 2023, surging by 5.6% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in April 2023 when the average import price increased by 17% against the previous month. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $5,568 per ton. From May 2023 to July 2023, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Italy ($7,887 per ton), while the price for Ireland ($1,442 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by France (+3.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Cheese and Curd Exports in Denmark
For the fourth consecutive year, Denmark recorded growth in shipments abroad of cheese and curd, which increased by 1.8% to 410K tons in 2022. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.6% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 2%. The exports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
In value terms, cheese and curd exports totaled $2B in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +6.9% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
