Cheese and Curd Price in Hong Kong SAR (CIF) - 2023
The average cheese and curd import price stood at $6,194 per ton in August 2023, waning by -12.7% against the previous month. In general, the import price saw a slight slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in July 2023 when the average import price increased by 8.6% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $7,158 per ton in March 2023; however, from April 2023 to August 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was Italy ($8,463 per ton), while the price for the UK ($4,992 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by New Zealand (+0.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
Cheese and Curd Price in Hong Kong SAR (FOB) - 2023
In August 2023, the average cheese and curd export price amounted to $9,011 per ton, waning by -1.8% against the previous month. In general, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in January 2023 when the average export price increased by 8.9% month-to-month. The export price peaked at $9,854 per ton in August 2022; however, from September 2022 to August 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for Macao SAR.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Macao SAR amounted to -0.3% per month.
Cheese and Curd Imports in Hong Kong SAR
Cheese and curd imports into Hong Kong SAR reduced to 16K tons in 2022, which is down by -10.1% compared with 2021 figures. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 15%. As a result, imports attained the peak of 18K tons, and then contracted in the following year.
In value terms, cheese and curd imports reduced modestly to $106M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.8% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 12% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $110M, and then contracted modestly in the following year.
